The <JOE> Button |
|
The task of this project was to create a button that had a deeper meaning to our specific "client/subject".
To start, we were all given a short time to interview and get to know our subject better, in my case, I was able to pull out the following as key points to use: - Purple - Pigs - Cynical - Lazy - Gamer |
Using the points I defined above, it was time to start sketching, for this project I tried to give each idea 1-3 ideas on it's own. Something that really defined that specific trait individually.
The idea with this process was that by the end of it, I may not have one single idea I like best, but by combining a set of ideas I should be able to find some interesting uses and combinations of ideas I like. |
From this stage, I decided to push some of my more complex ideas together, this is what I had designed:
The user is tasked with navigating a pig (The Purple Pig) through a maze (Puzzles/Gaming), within the maze the user is looking to find four pieces of the pigs house. Once gathered, the pieces will combine and create the pigs house which the user must click to end the game, and to add a little spice, the pig can ram and break through the walls (Lazy). |
Although I really enjoyed parts of my refined idea. There were two parts that bugged me.
1. The button isn't the star. There's nothing interesting about the button. 2. Its too complex, this dilutes the design and makes it a mess of different ideas. Using this, I went back to my very first sketch that seemed to receive good feedback during interview stages of the project. "The Lazy Button" - It's simple. You click, and it moves to where you clicked for you. No need to move your cursor to the button. The end result can be found below. |
